Kaweah Health has built a world-class heart surgery program in the Central Valley, and we are always looking for ways to grow our ability to care for the community we serve. Our affiliation with Stanford Health Care is bringing Stanford Medicine heart surgeons to the Central Valley, offering greater access to life-saving heart surgery where you need it — close to home and close to family.

With board-certified heart doctors, heart surgeons, and vascular surgeons, Kaweah Health's heart team can meet your special heart care needs. And because of our affiliation with Stanford Health Care, the doctors from Stanford Medicine in Visalia can work directly with doctors at Stanford Health Care in Northern California if you need to go there for complex or special surgery.

Our Cardiothoracic Team

Nationally recognized for excellence in heart surgery, we work together with local cardiothoracic surgeons to provide comprehensive cardiac and thoracic (chest and lung) surgery at Kaweah Health Medical Center. Through this partnership, patients from throughout the Central Valley are able to receive high-quality surgical care with their very personal touch.

Our Providers

Michael K. McLean, M.D. - Board Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon
Dr. McLean is a Stanford Medicine cardiothoracic surgeon living and working in Visalia who works at the Kaweah Health Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinic. His special areas of training include minimally invasive valve surgery, congenital heart surgery, endovascular aortic surgery, minimally-invasive thoracic surgery, esophageal surgery, and heart and lung transplantation/procurement.

Frederick W. Mayer, M.D. - Board Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon
Dr. Mayer is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with more than 40 years of experience. He is widely recognized as an expert in cardiac surgery and has been instrumental in developing the cardiothoracic surgery program at Kaweah Health since its inception. Dr. Mayer started the heart surgery program at Kaweah Health in 1995, and he has performed thousands of successful open heart surgeries since then.
