VISALIA – Today, as part of a coordinated national event called “Match Day,” officials announced the names of 47 resident physicians who this summer will begin their residency programs and careers as doctors at Kaweah Health.

“It’s always an exciting day and a rite of passage for physicians. It’s something that should really be celebrated. For us it’s another chance to celebrate the work we are doing to bring more physicians to our area so that we can improve access to physicians in the Central Valley,” said Dr. Lori Winston, Kaweah Health's Vice President of Medical Education. “We want these physicians to know we are a community that welcomes them with open arms. We hope they will fall in love with the area and decide to practice medicine here.”

Kaweah Health has accredited residency programs in anesthesiology, emergency medicine, family medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, and transitional year. Each year, thousands of candidates apply for just 47 annual intern positions in Kaweah Health’s six residency programs. Kaweah Health has a total of 130 residents in various stages of training. Approximately 45 percent of the residents who have graduated from Kaweah Health's residency program have stayed in the Central Valley to practice medicine.
