Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) is a comprehensive program designed to improve cardiovascular health following a cardiac-related event or procedure. Kaweah Health Cardiac Rehab is proudly certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. An optimal CR experience consists of 36 one-hour sessions that include supervised exercise training and education to help develop skills for heart-healthy living. Cardiac Rehab is supervised by registered nurses and exercise physiologists who will tailor each patient’s program based on physician prescription, national guidelines and individualized patient goals. Patient goals may include improved endurance, increased strength, stress management, medication compliance, smoking cessation, and/or diabetes education. We work with each individual to formulate a schedule that works for them, especially if patients are returning to work so don’t let the number of sessions deter you. Ultimately our goal is to help guide you through the uncertainty and questions you may have after a cardiac event.

In addition, Cardiac Rehab can:

  • Improve overall strength and endurance, quality of life and mood

  • Give patients a greater sense of well-being and confidence

  • Identify factors that contribute to heart disease

  • Enhance the life-long management of heart disease

  • Decrease hospital readmissions

Cardiac Rehab can benefit patients who have had:

  • Coronary artery bypass surgery

  • A heart attack (within the last year)

  • Coronary angioplasty (PTCA) or coronary stent procedures

  • Stable angina

  • Valve replacement or repair

  • Heart transplant

  • Chronic heart failure with Ejection Fraction below 35%
