Expert care for every birth journey
August 8, 2025
You and your baby deserve the best. That’s what you can expect at the Kaweah Health Family Birthing Center, located at 400 West Mineral King Avenue in Visalia.
We deliver more than 4,000 babies a year at our facility, named a U.S. News & World Report High Performing Maternity Care Hospital for 2025. Our specialists support you throughout the birth experience and beyond. Here’s how:
Before baby arrives
We know you’ve got plenty on your to-do list. Let us help you check these items off:
- Taking prenatal classes: Have questions about your baby’s birth and your hospital stay? Sign up for our prenatal classes.
- Getting a car seat safety check: Call 559-802-7520 for a free appointment with one of our licensed child passenger seat technicians. (By law, all infants discharged from Kaweah Health must be in a federally approved car seat to leave the hospital.)
- Preregistering for your hospital stay: We make it easy to preregister for your hospital admission. Just make sure you do so before your eighth month of pregnancy.
When baby arrives
Your birthing team will be ready to help welcome your baby. These caregivers include your doctor or certified nurse midwife, labor and delivery registered nurse specialist, nursing assistant, and certified registered nurse anesthetists or anesthesiologists.
The Family Birthing Center has the following units:
- Labor and Delivery Triage (2 East)
- Labor and Delivery Unit (2 East)
- Mother Baby Unit (Acequia Tower, Third Floor)
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU; Acequia Tower, Sixth Floor)
When you arrive in the Triage Unit, you can have one support person at your bedside. Two people can be with you in the Labor and Delivery Unit, and one support person can stay with you overnight in the Mother Baby Unit.
After baby arrives
You can count on more help from Kaweah Health after your baby is born. We can assist with cord blood banking if you choose. This is the process of collecting and storing your baby’s umbilical cord blood stem cells to possibly help treat genetic diseases, blood disorders, and cancers. The company you choose will give you a kit to bring to the hospital when you are admitted. Your obstetrician and other caregivers will make sure everything is collected for your kit after your baby is born.
We also have free monthly classes for new parents.
