Kaweah Health’s Dr. Cory D. Jaques was recently honored with the American Red Cross 2026 Central Valley Healthcare Hero Award for his compassion and dedication in reshaping care for children in crisis across the Central Valley.

A children’s psychiatrist working across emergency departments, inpatient units and community clinics, Dr. Jaques is known for his careful, deliberate approach. When working with these young patients, he listens, evaluates, and carefully considers the full context of each child before determining a path forward. In doing so, he has gained the trust of countless families who are grateful for his care.

“At the end of the day, I get to say, ‘Hey, I help kids.’ And I go to bed every night knowing I helped a kid today, and there’s nothing in this world better than helping children,” he said.

Dr. Jaques has been instrumental in establishing Kaweah Health Youth Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). The unit provides crisis intervention services for children and youth 21 and under, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. This offers an option outside of the emergency room that is an easy entry point to care for youth and their families.

Beyond his work as medical director of the CSU, Dr. Jaques is also the program director for Kaweah Health’s Graduate Medical Education Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship, ensuring new generations of psychiatrists are trained to take care of the youth in our community.

Dr. Jaques’ impact is measured in the many young people facing brighter futures because someone with the clinical depth of understanding and the tireless dedication to help refused to let them fall through the cracks when it mattered most.
