Kaweah Health is excited to welcome Dr. Trung Ly Tran, the newest cardiothoracic surgeon, to join its cardiothoracic surgery program.

Dr. Tran joins Dr. Shelly Bansal and Dr. Frederick Mayer. He most recently worked for Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas. He has family in both northern and southern California, so he felt the Central Valley was a perfect centralized location to make his home.

"I'm excited to bring my skills in robotic surgery to Kaweah Health’s growing cardiothoracic program," Dr. Tran said. Kaweah Health’s cardiothoracic surgery program began 30 years ago in 1996 and with the addition of Dr. Tran will be able to serve even more patients.

Dr. Tran is board-certified in cardiac, thoracic, and general surgery. He completed his medical education at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He did his residency in general surgery at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, followed by a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Heart Institute in Houston, TX. Dr. Tran’s specialty areas include coronary artery bypass, heart valve repair/replacement, aortic aneurysm repair, lung resections, and mediastinal and chest wall tumor removal.

Dr. Tran stresses the importance of making sure a patient understands all aspects of their surgery before he operates.

“A patient’s understanding not only helps me with my surgery, but it also helps the patient with their recovery when they know what is happening,” Dr. Tran said.

He also specializes in minimally invasive cardiac and thoracic robotic surgery and works with Kaweah Health’s newest robot Ion. For more information on Kaweah Health’s cardiothoracic surgery program, visit KaweahHealth.org/Heart.

Dr. Tran is another example of Kaweah Health continuing to work toward adding more doctors to serve our ever-growing community, while making sure they are a good fit for our patients and the Central Valley.
