Psychiatry

Vision:

Passion | Education | Care

Mission Statement

To train competent, confident, evidence based Psychiatrists who become leaders and educators in the field of Mental Health and provide exemplary full spectrum patient care to those in need.

Kaweah Health is a large organization with over 400 patient beds. Our West campus includes a busy, acute 48-bed inpatient Mental Health Hospital which is an easy 10 minute drive from the main medical/surgical campus. Our Emergency Department has over 90,000 annual patient visits. Here, residents obtain experience in crisis intervention, risk assessment and consultation. Other psychiatry training sites include the Kaweah Health Rural Clinics, Tulare County Mental Health, Tulare County Recovery, Kingsview Behavioral, and Tulare Youth Service Bureau.

As a public, non-profit hospital and federal-designated underserved area, a key objective for the Kaweah Health Mental Health Hospital is providing care to underserved populations; poor, uninsured, immigrant farmworkers, homeless and the chronically mentally ill. We emphasize integration with primary care, so patients experience the best in comprehensive, personalized care for all of their illnesses. We strive to provide patient-centered, evidence-based care to improve the health of our community.

Kaweah Health provides significant resources for a successful educational experience. Our residents work with skilled Faculty Psychiatrists in a stimulating and supportive environment. We recognize the impact that teachers have on the careers of their trainees. Both clinical and didactic components of the programs stimulate professional and personal growth. Our expectations are high, and we know that yours are as well. We want all of our residents to achieve their maximum potential.

If you are interested in our exciting program and meet the application requirements, we encourage you to apply through ERAS at: www.aamc.org/students/medstudents/eras/.
