Chronic Dialysis

Department Name: Visalia Dialysis / Chronic Dialysis

The chronic dialysis facility provides dialysis treatments for those patients who have end stage renal disease. We also provide dialysis for rehab patients who have their own dialysis facility they go to and need “transient” dialysis which is short stay treatments. We also admit acute patients from the hospital in need of dialysis after discharge.

In a brief statement, from a staff perspective, what is most rewarding about working on your unit?

The most rewarding feeling is that you get to know the patient(s), interact with their families, and try to provide resolution to the problems they are having with the long term effects of this continual treatment

  • Average patient ratio: 6:1
  • Planned expansion (and timeframe): none
  • Total number of beds in the unit: 4 beds for patients unable to tolerate sitting in a chair
  • Average census, census range: 160 patients
  • Length of Patient Stay: 2-5 years

Scheduling details:

  • Shifts offered (i.e., 8, 10, 12 hours): 12 hours
  • Weekend requirements: 3 weekends per 6 week schedule
  • Holiday requirements: Rotating holidays
  • Call requirements: none
